Alcohol Related Frequent Attenders (ARFA) Clinical Network meeting: On Thursday 8 September the HIN Alcohol team hosted the ARFA Clinical Network Meeting, which included a presentation from Iain Armstrong, the Public Health England national programme lead for Alcohol Care in Hospitals. Stephanie Fincham-Campbell from the south London CLAHRC Alcohol team presented her initial findings from a national survey of Assertive Outreach Services for alcohol, and Professor Colin Drummond spoke about work on the HIN Resource Pack for Alcohol Care in Hospitals.
All Party Parliamentary Group for Diabetes: On Wednesday 7 September Lily Megaw, Project Manager for Diabetes and Atrial Fibrillation and Laura Spratling, Programme Director for Diabetes and Atrial Fibrillation at the HIN, attended the latest meeting of the Diabetes APPG in parliament. Highlights of the meeting included presentations from Dr Kate Fayers, lead consultant for the new West Hampshire Community Diabetes Service (WHCDS), who spoke about the need to design twenty first century diabetes service and David Hiles, Consultant for the Diabetes UK Service Redesign and Improvement Consultancy, who explained how health care professionals and practices that are achieving better results in diabetes primary care often do not realize what it is that make them different.
Diabetes UK Research forum: Sophie Harris, HIN Innovation Fellow attended the Diabetes UK Clinical Studies Group inaugural meeting on Thursday 8 September in London. They presented their plans to set up Clinical Studies Groups for three key themes: 1. Cause, prevention and cure, 2. Self-management, acute and long-term care, 3. Prevention and management of complications.
