Happy New Year from the Health Innovation Network South London

This January, Kate Lambe took over the role of Involvement Manager at the Health Innovation Network (HIN) South London from Kristina Leonnet. Thank you to Kristina, for your hard work involving people and communities in south London over the past year.

Kate has a background in academic research, and in the NHS, first as a Health Inequalities Research Fellow and more recently, as an Evaluation Manager. Kate has always recognised and advocated for the importance of meaningful involvement to improve and develop services.

Read Kate's update on the involvement at the HIN as we head into 2025 below.

Involvement has played a large role at the HIN in the last year and continues to be at the forefront of our work as we enter 2025. Reflecting on the work completed in 2024, we have contributed to several projects where involvement has made a difference.

One example includes work completed with NHSE London, using patient insights to transform NHS 111 services. This work has been re-commissioned for a further year to further develop the service, informed by patient and public perspectives.

Our Lived Experience Partners have also helped to run workshops introducing patient and public engagement to dozens of health tech companies through DigitalHealth.London's programmes and for new Darzi Fellows.

We have worked with NHS South East London - Integrated Care Board to improve care for individuals aged 18-40 with type 2 diabetes. To better understand specific needs and challenges, the HIN undertook patient insights work where they surveyed 70 patients and interviewed 30. We have now recruited 8 people with lived experience to form a Patient Advisory Group, who will meet monthly to guide the project going forward.

Best wishes,

Kate Lambe
Evaluation and Involvement Manager

Hearing Community Voices: Effective Engagement to Reduce Health Inequality

Listening to the voices of those for whom services are designed and delivered is not just good practice—it’s essential. True progress requires meaningful engagement with service users, placing co-production approaches at the forefront. This event will equip organisations to move beyond the barriers of engagement, offering actionable solutions for effectively involving Black, Asian, and minoritised ethnic communities in the fight against health inequalities.
