Innovation and technology are becoming ever more complex. And that’s particularly true of a cutting edge sector such as immersive technology. So how do we make sure we maximise the opportunities for this exciting tech?
Well, one of the ways we can do so is to take a collaborative approach, by partners at all stages of the supply chain collaborating with each other to tackle challenges and find solutions. And fortunately, some recent changes in the legal framework for healthcare – the Health and Care Act 2022 and ‘provider selection regime’ for procurement of healthcare services – have placed the emphasis on promoting collaboration.
This month on the Mindset-XR Innovator Support Programme, I provided some insight on this topic with a well-attended webinar on collaborating in research for immersive tech. My key tips included:
- There is no legal definition of ‘collaboration’, so it’s up to the partners involved to work out how they want to collaborate
- Be really clear about who is doing what in the collaboration
- A good collaboration is a fair one – which means each partner benefits but also assumes some risk
- Put in place the right type of contracts between the partners at the right time – be proportionate, use existing templates where you can and seek advice where it can add value
- Consider carefully how your IP is protected and how IP generated from the collaboration can be commercialised.
