ESCAPE-pain Webinar: 'Resuming face-to-face delivery in a time of Covid'

The ESCAPE-pain programme is an intervention for people with chronic joint pain developed by Professor Mike Hurley. The programme is hosted by the Health Innovation Network and supported by NHS England.

ESCAPE-pain offers two programmes:

  • ESCAPE-pain for knees and hips: designed to benefit people with chronic knee or hip pain, otherwise known as osteoarthritis.
  • ESCAPE-pain for backs: designed to benefit people with chronic low back pain

The programmes are usually delivered as face-to-face classes to groups of about 10 people in Physiotherapy Outpatient Departments, leisure and community venues. During the initial Covid lockdown all sites suspended their face-to-face services in line with government guidelines.

As some services have started to reopen, we are now receiving growing interest from ESCAPE-pain sites on how they might approach and plan for resuming their face-to-face ESCAPE-pain classes.

The MSK Theme at the Health Innovation Network (AHSN South London) are very pleased to invite you to our forthcoming free ESCAPE-pain webinar, ‘Resuming face-to-face delivery in a time of Covid’.

During the webinar you will hear directly from sites, some who have restarted their services and others who are in the planning phase. They will be sharing their initial experiences of planning for, and returning to face-to-face delivery across a range of themes such as:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Hygiene and safety considerations
  • Referral routes, recruitment and uptake
  • Group size
  • Venue considerations including layout and waiting room
  • Modifications to how the education and exercise components are delivered
  • Data collection
  • Current guidance

There will also be opportunities to ask questions.

If there are other key areas you would like to discuss within the context of face-to-face delivery please get in touch via

Please note the webinar will be held on Zoom. Joining details will be sent after registering your place.

Please be advised that this event will be recorded.
