Get in touchThe Health Innovation Network South London, in partnership with King’s College London (KCL) and Fora Health, a digital health company, are developing a commercialisation plan for a shared decision making tool, in the form of an app, to support patients with bipolar disorder.
Bipolar disorder is a serious mental health condition associated with repeated periods of very high mood (mania) and very low mood (depression). These mood changes are known as ‘episodes’, and if not treated, can lead to admission to hospital. To keep mood stable and prevent relapses, medication can be helpful. However, bipolar medication can be difficult to remember to take and may cause unwanted side effects for some people. To improve their treatment experience and their ability to take medication, people with bipolar disorder have said they would like more involvement in medication decisions, to try and get treated with medications that work best for them.
To support people with bipolar disorder, KCL and Fora Health have been awarded an NIHR grant for the project “A patient app and EPR-integrated care team interface to digitally enable support for shared decision making to improve maintenance management of patients with Bipolar Disorder”. The Health Innovation Network South London have been commissioned to develop a commercialisation plan for the project with the aim of evaluating potential initial routes to market and providing guidance on the overarching requirements needed for the app to be spread and adopted throughout the NHS.
