A new project designed to support people achieve and maintain a healthier weight is being implemented across south east and south west London. The three year project brings together local pharmacies, family weight management hubs, and the Health Innovation Network South London to develop and test a more community-based approach to weight management.

We are recruiting a resident panel to provide lived experience insight and inform service design and delivery for the “Healthy Weight Through Community and Innovation: A South London Approach” project.

This project aims to improve how community pharmacies and newly developed family weight management hubs work together, with the aim of improving access to practical, locally delivered support.

Expressions of interest

The project is inviting expressions of interest from people with lived experience of obesity and associated health challenges. We welcome applications from anyone with lived experience of obesity, and we are particularly keen to hear from:

  • People from minoritised ethnic groups
  • People living with a learning disability
  • People living with a mental health condition
  • Families, with a particular interest in including at least one parent-child pairing on the panel

Express your interest

Individuals interested in joining the resident panel are invited to complete an expression of interest form. Please complete the expression of interest form by July 12, 2026. We will review submissions and invite a number of applicants for a short informal conversation between July 20-23, after which we will inform our successful panel members. The panel will begin working on the project from August 2026.

Role of the resident panel

Panel members will contribute to the design and development of the project. This includes:

  • Providing feedback on existing and proposed services
  • Informing the design of a community pharmacy-based support pathway
  • Identifying priorities for family-focused support
  • Contributing to the development of family weight management hubs within local neighbourhoods

No prior experience is required, just the expectation to share your honest views.

Expectations of panel members and reimbursement

The project is seeking to recruit eight resident panel members. Panel members will be expected to attend up to four online meetings per year for the duration of the project (three years). Each meeting will involve approximately three hours of work in total, including preparation, attendance and follow-ups.

Panel members will receive £20 per hour in recognition of their time and contribution.

In addition, two panel members will have the opportunity to take on an extended role, including participation in:

  • Monthly steering group meetings
  • Quarterly board meetings
  • In-person co-design workshops

Participation in these additional activities will be remunerated at £150 per day, with travel expenses of up to £25 reimbursed.

Support and accessibility

The project is committed to enabling inclusive participation and will provide appropriate support to all panel members. This includes:

  • Pre-meeting briefing materials
  • One-to-one support where required
  • Facilitation to ensure all participants can contribute
  • Adjustments such as British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation and alternative access options for online meetings

Additional reasonable adjustments will be made in response to individual needs.

Confidentiality

All contributions will be treated confidentially. Personal data will be stored securely and accessed only by authorised members of the project team.

Panel members will also be expected to respect the confidentiality of discussions, including personal experiences shared by others and draft materials under development.
