Evaluation of Remote Monitoring of COVID-19 in South East London

The Doctaly Assist platform, created by the health tech company Doctaly, uses WhatsApp to monitor and manage patients with COVID-19 in the community by facilitating the collection of patient information through the completion of completing daily assessments.

This evaluation focuses on the implementation and delivery of the platform and the use of remote monitoring for managing COVID-19 cases from the perspective of both patients and healthcare staff in Lewisham in south east London.

It used a mixed-methods approach including in-depth interviews with staff and patients, and an analysis of data collected by Doctaly Assist. Although the service has been stopped since, due to the number of acute COVID-19 cases falling, the evaluation provides valuable insights into how a remote monitoring technology was implemented at pace and scale in extremely challenging circumstances.
