Email usWelcome to the Mindset Extended Reality (XR) for digital mental health programme learning resources, which include three series: medical regulation, clinical evidence and lived experience involvement. Mindset-XR is helping to catalyse the growth of immersive digital mental health solutions in the UK, through funding, tailored support and training. It is delivered by Innovate UK and the Health Innovation Network South London (HIN).
These learning resources are designed to help mental health innovators working in the extended reality space navigate some of the challenges associated with transitioning their concepts and ideas into products and interventions which make an impact at scale.
Each of the three learning resources has been designed in conjunction with expert Mindset-XR programme partners:
Medical regulations are critical for keeping patients safe and ensuring that the public can trust the quality and effectiveness of medicines, medical devices and other health interventions.
Many extended reality innovations in mental health are likely to need to comply with strict guidelines before they can be used by patients. These learning modules (designed by medical device regulatory experts Hardian Health) are designed to guide innovators through the potentially complex world of legislation, regulation and product approval:
For much of history, medicine used a "paternal" model of delivery, where clinicians decided what was best for their patient without in-depth consultation or sometimes even consent.
Thankfully, today we live in much more enlightened times, and patients are heavily involved in making decisions about their care. This also applies to the world of health tech and innovation, where involving people and communities in the development and design of interventions is now firmly embedded as best practice. In this in-depth learning module (designed by mental health research charity MQ), innovators will learn about the principles of Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) and how to practically implement these techniques in their work:
Evidence generation plays a key role in helping a great idea become a successful innovation. Without robust research and evidence about the safety and effectiveness of your innovation, you will be unable to win the confidence of patients, clinicians or commissioners.
In these modules (designed by the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King's College London), innovators will be guided through every step of the research process, from initial idea-forming to planning and delivering studies, and disseminating results.
