Older Adult Psychiatric Wards – Increasing patient engagement through use of digital devices during Covid-19

Older adult psychiatric in-patient activities were significantly impacted by Covid-19 due to patient isolation and staff capacity.

Following the first ‘wave’, The Health Innovation Network (HIN), Getech Enterprise and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) trialled the use of Google Chrome patient devices with dementia-friendly content to support with increasing patient engagement.

The devices and activities were shown to add value to patient care and could be a helpful longer-term intervention to maximise activities and reduce isolation.
