Health and behaviour change communications

The ability to shift attitudes and behaviours is critical for improving health and care. From listening and responding to build public trust in new technologies, to supporting staff to adopt new models of care – communications and engagement sits at the heart of all successful transformation.

Our experienced communication specialists support health and care teams, innovators and charities to deliver impactful campaigns and communications activities in complex environments.

With over 40 years’ combined experience, we can provide support at every stage of planning, delivering and evaluating your behaviour change marketing or communications activity:

Communications planning

Great campaigns are built around insights – understanding your audience and the context that they operate within. We use a mix of qualitative and quantitative methods to help you to listen to the needs of your audience and find the common ground needed for you to successfully engage with them.

Our team has a particular specialism in using digital insight tools – such as Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) or social media analysis platforms – to help you understand the digital environment your target audience operates within.

We also work closely with our in-house involvement team to conduct meaningful engagement and co-design of communications activities. We have a proud track record of working in partnership with minoritised groups and ensuring that people with lived experience are able to contribute to projects as equal partners – read more about how we used co-design to shape an online cancer resource for people with serious mental illness.

Content and delivery

Our team has a range of creative and content production skills to give your activity the reach and engagement it needs to shift behaviours and shape attitudes.

In-house, this expertise includes:

  • Multimedia production, covering filming, audio/video editing and animation, photography and graphic design;
  • Content strategy and production, with particular focus on translating complex information into engaging, accessible and clinically-safe content for staff and patients, and designing learning resources;
  • Media engagement, regularly achieving coverage in top-tier industry media such as HSJ;
  • Event delivery, with experience planning and managing events and conferences from senior leadership roundtables to conferences with 200+ attendees.

We also work with a small group of trusted suppliers to cover any specialist services you may need, such as professional-quality printing.

Evaluation, auditing and strategy

Our strategic expertise spans the public and private sector, with experience planning and executing behaviour change strategies with a range of commercial, public health and organisational development objectives. We can also use our experience to help you create an authoritative voice through building thought leadership opportunities and our public affairs work.

We use the Government Communications Service Evaluation Cycle as the basis for appraising communications and engagement activities, and we can work with our Evaluation and Informatics team on larger or more complex evaluation projects.
