Amanda Pritchard DBE

Amanda took up the role of Chief Executive of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in September 2025, following nearly 4 years as Chief Executive of NHS England and 2 years as Chief Operating Officer. The first woman to lead the health service, during her tenure the NHS responded to the Omicron wave of COVID-19, published the first ever NHS Long Term Workforce Plan and began its recovery from the pandemic with emergency care access, elective and cancer performance, acute sector productivity, and staff survey results all improving. Previously, as COO, she led the NHS operationally through COVID-19. Before joining NHS England in 2019, Amanda was Chief Executive of Guy’s and St Thomas’ and was previously Deputy Chief Executive at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust. She began her NHS career as a graduate management trainee in 1997 after studying at Oxford University. She was awarded a damehood in the 2026 New Year Honours list and is married with 3 children.
